Panicum repens L. APNI*

Description: Perennial to 1.2 m high with extensive robust rhizomes with sharp, penetrating, scaly apices.

Leaves with sheath glabrous to hairy; ligule membranous below, ciliate above, 0.5–0.75 mm long; blade 2–6 mm wide, hairy especially towards the base.

Panicle usually partly exserted, 7–15 cm long, pedicels 0.5–3 mm long. Spikelets ovate-oblong, 2.2–2.6 mm long. Lower glume 20–35% the length of the spikelet, truncate to rounded-obtuse, 3-nerved; upper the shape and size of the spikelet, 7-nerved. Lower lemma male, similar to the upper glume, 7-nerved; palea slightly shorter than the lemma. Upper lemma elliptic, c. 2 mm long, smooth, lightly striolate.
