Description: Tufted annual to 0.8 m high.

Leaves with sheath glabrous or sometimes the lower with tubercle-based hairs; ligule membranous below, ciliate above, 1–2 mm long; blade 2–10 mm wide, glabrous.

Panicle lax, open, 15–30 cm long, pedicels 4–8 mm long. Spikelets oblong, obtuse, 2.2–2.5 mm long. Lower glume obtuse to acuminate, 10–25% the length of the spikelet, nerveless or 1-nerved; upper as long as the spikelet, 7–9-nerved. Lower lemma male, similar to the upper glume, 7–9-nerved; palea subequal to the lemma. Upper lemma elliptic-oblong, c. 2 mm long, minutely apiculate, smooth, shining, faintly 5–7-nerved.
