Description: Rhizomatous, almost turf-forming aquatic perennial, with numerous submerged and a few floating leaves; turions not recorded.

Floating leaves narrow-elliptic 2–4 cm long, < 10 mm wide, 5–7-veined, apex acute; submerged leaves translucent, linear, tapered at apex and base, 5–10 cm long, 2–3 mm wide.

Inflorescence a spike, emergent, dense, to 2 cm long.

Nutlets 2–2.5 mm long, with a prominent beak, ± keeled.


Flowering: during warmer months.

Distribution and occurrence: North from Sydney district along east coast of Australia; also in tropical NT and WA.

Grows in shallow water of lakes and creeks, often in sand
