Description: Perennial herb with a nodular rhizome; stems erect, mostly 30–80 cm high, 4-angled, sometimes narrowly winged; glabrous except for rachis and pedicels.

Leaves ± ovate, 2.5–4 cm long, 1.5–6 cm wide, apex ± acute, base cordate to truncate, margins usually doubly toothed; petiole 5–10 mm long.

Inflorescences terminal panicles, flowers numerous; bracts small; pedicels 5–10 mm long, glandular. Sepals 1.5–2 mm long. Corolla erect, 7–10 mm long, green with purplish brown upper lip. Stamens 4; filaments glandular-pubescent; anthers transverse, 1-locular; staminode ± obovate.
