Selaginella gracillima (Kunze) Alston APNI*

Description: Annual plant; rhizome lacking; stems all erect, mostly 2–5 cm long, simple or forked once or twice; branchlets slender.

Leaves in 4 rows, lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long, tapering to a point, scattered.

Sporophylls not aggregated into definite strobili, sporangia often occurring in the axils of most leaves; microsporangia and megasporangia mixed.


Distribution and occurrence: in moist shady sites, such as the margins of swamps and near watercourses; possibly overlooked because of its small size; occurence in NSW not supported by any specimens held at NSW. Edited K.L. Gibbons, May 2022.
