Setaria poiretiana (Schult.) Kunth APNI*

Description: Perennial caespitose erect herb c. 1 m high; stems 100–300 cm long, turgid, glabrous or hispid near nodes.

Leaves with sheath keeled, hispid; ligule 1.5–3 mm long, with margin ciliate; blade 25–70 cm long, 40–100 mm wide, elliptical, folded, hispid, with apex slightly extended.

Inflorescence an open, cylindrical-pyramidal panicle, 35–80 cm long, 2–9 cm wide; branches 2–8 cm long, verticilate, ascending, c. 10–15 mm long; florets 3–3.7 mm long; lower glumes 1.7–1.8 mm long, ovate, 3-nerved; upper glumes 2–2.4 mm long, 5–8-nerved; lower lemma 3–3.5 mm long, 5-nerved; lower palea present or absent; upper lemma 2.9–3.5 mm long, rugulose.
