Genus Brachypterum Family Fabaceae

Description: Woody climbers.

Leaves compound, alternate, imparipinnate; stipules small, persistent or caducous.

Inflorescences pseudoracemes or pseudopanicles, axillary or terminal; bracts and bracteoles small, persistent or caducous. Calyx tube truncate or shortly toothed. Standard ± circular; wings and keel about same length. Stamens 10, monadelphous; anthers uniform. Ovary hairy; ovules 8–11.

Pod compressed, papery, indehiscent, upper suture or both sutures narrowly winged; seeds 1–4, compressed, circular to reniform, arillate.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 14 species, from India to Myanmar, China, Thailand, Laos, South-East Asia to Papua New Guinea and Australia: 4 species (all endemic), Qld, N.S.W.

Previously included in either Derris or Solori. Historically included in Wisteria.
