Viola improcera L.G.Adams APNI* Description: Perennial; stem short, sometimes scarcely visible; stolons present, 1–2 cm long.
Leaves tufted, spathulate, 18–22 mm long including petiole, glabrous, margins relatively coarsely glandular-crenate; petiole narrowly winged; stipules linear-lanceolate, 2.5–3 mm long, ± connate.
Flower-scapes 10–25 mm long (elongating to 40 mm or more in fruit); bracteoles near middle. Flowers c. 8 mm diam. Sepals lanceolate, acute, c. 2.5 mm long, glabrous, green. Corolla c. twice as long as calyx, pale blue-violet inside; posterior petals oblanceolate, subfalcate, c. 4 mm long; lateral petals oblanceolate, subfalcate, c. 5 mm long, glabrous; anterior petal oblong, c. 6 mm long, ± truncate. Stamens c. 1 mm long, the anthers subsessile. ovules 8 per placenta.
Capsule ellipsoid, c. 6 mm long, strongly violet-tinged; seeds ovoid, c. 2 mm long, usually black, glossy, smooth or rugulose.
Flowering: Flowering recorded December–January.
Distribution and occurrence: Known from a single subpopulation on Big Badja Hill, Deua National Park and within Namadgi National Park.
