Family Akaniaceae

Description: Trees.

Leaves alternate, pinnate, large, glabrous, stipulate; leaflets ± opposite, lanceolate, toothed.

Inflorescences axillary or growing above an axil, paniculate; bracteate. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 5-merous. Calyx lobes 5, imbricate. Corolla lobes 5, convolute, free or fused to calyx. Disc absent. Stamens 5–10 in two whorls. Ovary superior, 3-locular, style simple, stigma capitate; ovules 2 per loculus, pendent; placentation axile.

Fruit a loculicidal capsule; seeds globose to ovoid, testa hard and brittle, without an aril.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 genus, 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 genus, 1 species, endemic.
