Genus Alexfloydia Family Poaceae

Description: Stoloniferous perennials; internodes shorter than the associated leaf sheaths.

Leaves with ligule a fringe of hairs; blade flat, with prominent midrib, smooth, mostly glabrous, margins smooth.

Inflorescence a reduced panicle with a short main axis.

Spikelets pedicellate, laterally or dorsiventrally compressed, elliptic in outline, falling entire; florets 2, lower floret male, upper floret bisexual, shorter than the lower floret. Glumes unequal, 5–9-nerved, papery, smooth, rounded on the back. Lower lemma elliptic, 9-nerved, papery, glabrous, acute; palea elliptic, 2-nerved; upper lemma oblong, obscurely 5-nerved, glabrous, firmly membranous or thinly cartilaginous, striate, acute; palea oblong with texture similar to the lemma, entire, smooth. Lodicules 2, free, membranous.
