Genus Amorphospermum Family Sapotaceae

Description: Trees or shrubs with milky latex, shoots and lower surface of leaves covered with coloured, usually rusty, T-shaped hairs.

Inflorescence simple, flowers sessile in few-flowered clusters, often ramiflorous. Sepals mostly 5, rarely 6; petals and stamens usually 5, rarely 6 or 8, petals without appendages, staminodes absent; carpels mostly 5, sometimes 1–4.

Fruit more or less globose, sometimes with a gynophore 1–2 cm long, 1-seeded; seed globose 1–2 cm diam., testa hard and bony, scar large.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species in Australia and Papua NEW Guinea
