Genus Arrhenechthites Family Asteraceae

Description: Perennial herbs, sometimes woody at base.

Leaves alternate.

Heads few in pedunculate cymose panicles, heads on slender stalks with narrow-linear bracts; involucral bracts 5–8, linear with scarious margins, in ± 2 rows, outer bracts wider and inserted between inner ones; receptacle ± flat. Florets mostly tubular, few; outer florets female with filiform corolla and with a minute ligule, about the same number as the bracts; inner florets bisexual but functionally male, corolla deeply lobed. Fertile achenes cylindrical, ribbed; sterile achenes compressed; pappus of fine white bristles, not persistent, about as long as involucre.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 species, New Guinea & Australia. Australia: 1 species (endemic).
