Description: Perennial shrubs.
Leaves alternate, pinnately 3-foliolate; leaflet surfaces with minute yellow resinous glands; stipulate; stipellate.
Inflorescences axillary racemes; bracts caducous; bracteoles absent. Calyx with upper 2 teeth fused. Standard auriculate; keel incurved. Stamens diadelphous; anthers uniform. Ovary 4–7-ovulate. Style glabrous.
Pods linear-oblong, inflated, beaked, obliquely depressed between seeds; seeds several, without an obvious aril.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 37 species, tropical & subtropical regions., chiefly Africa & Asia. Australia: 11 species (10 species, native, 1 species naturalized).
