Description: Trees or shrubs, evergreen or deciduous, dioecious.
Leaves alternate, mostly compound; stipulate.
Inflorescences axillary or terminal, various. Flowers 3-merous, unisexual. Sepals 3. Petals 3. Stamens 6, free or fused, sometimes epipetalous or fused to disc; sterile and reduced in female flowers. Disc usually 6-lobed, well-developed in male flowers.
Drupe with a 3-locular stony pyrene.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 100 species, tropical & subtropical regions from Africa through Asia to the Pac. Is. Australia: 4 species (2 species endemic), Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A.
