Genus Emmenosperma Family Rhamnaceae

Description: Trees.

Leaves alternate or opposite; stipules minute.

Flowers in cymes or panicles. Hypanthium short. Sepals 5. Petals 5, hooded. Stamens 5, enclosed in petals. Ovary mostly 2-locular, inserted on disc; style bifid or trifid.

Fruit drupaceous, almost capsular, mericarps opening inwards by longitudinal slits; seeds 2 or 3, without an aril; seeds often remaining on the receptacle after the pericarp has fallen.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, Australia & New Caledonia. Australia: 2 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W., W.A., chiefly tropical
