Genus Enydra Family Asteraceae

Description: Annual or perennial herbs.

Leaves opposite.

Heads campanulate or hemispherical, solitary or in pairs in upper leaf axils; involucral bracts 4, leafy, 2 outer larger than 2 inner and longer than disc florets; receptacle scales present, enfolding achenes. Ray florets female or sterile, in several series; ligules short, apex 3-toothed. Disc florets bisexual but usually sterile, 5-toothed; anthers with rounded apical appendages, base obtuse; style of ray florets shortly bifid, of disc florets oblong, apex deltoid.

Achenes oblong, ± compressed; pappus absent or a lacerated rim or 2 short awns.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 10 species, tropical Asia & Australia. Australia: 1 species (endemic).
