Description: Prostrate or twining perennial herbs.
Leaves alternate, 3-foliolate.
Inflorescences axillary racemes; flowers ± paired or in clusters, bracts and bracteoles present. Calyx 4-toothed, pubescent, teeth longer than tube, upper 2 teeth fused. Standard ovate, clawed; wings narrow and usually as long as keel. Stamens diadelphous; anthers uniform. Styles not bearded; stigma terminal.
Fruit linear, compressed, ± septate between seeds; seeds without obvious aril.
Flowering: Flowers summer.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 140 spp. trop. & subtrop. regions. Aust.: 2 spp. (native), all mainland States except Vic.
