Genus Geodorum Family Orchidaceae

Description: Terrestrial herbs, sympodial; roots subterranean, fibrous. Stems differentiated into rhizome and pseudobulb; pseudobulb of several internodes, subterranean.

Leaves tufted at apex of the pseudobulb, several per shoot, distichous, plicate, petiolate; petiole sheathing and forming a stalk-like tube.

Inflorescence racemose, several to many-flowered, lateral, the rachis recurved when flowers are open; flowers resupinate. Sepals and lateral petals free, similar. Labellum laterally fused at the base to the column foot; lamina obscurely 3-lobed, shallowly saccate, bearing a longitudinal keel from base to centre of midlobe. Column lacking free filament and style; column wings fused to column, narrow. Column foot shorter than column. Anther incumbent, cap-like. Pollinia 2, waxy. Stigma entire. Rostellum not prominent, ventral.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 10 species, southern Asia, Malesia, Melanesia, New Caledonia, Australia. Australia: 1 species (native).
