Description: Annual herbs, spreading or prostrate.
Leaves opposite, broad-ovate or ± circular entire. Racemes terminal, dense. Sepals 5, free, lower 2 sepals much broader than upper 3. Corolla tubular, obliquely campanulate, unequally 5-lobed.
Fertile stamens 4. Capsule cylindrical-ovoid, spiny, horns as long as, or longer than the body.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, tropical America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
