Genus Murraya Family Rutaceae

Description: Shrubs or small trees, glabrous or with simple hairs, unarmed.

Leaves alternate, imparipinnate; leaflets with margins entire or irregularly crenate; lateral leaflets alternate and usually increasing in size towards apex of the rachis.

Inflorescences axillary or terminal, paniculate. Flowers bisexual. Sepals 5, free or basally fused. Petals 5, imbricate, not persistent in fruit. Stamens 10, free, erect. Ovary 2–5-locular, ± ellipsoidal; styles fused, arising terminally from ovary; stigma capitate.

Fruit a berry, lacking pulp vesicles; seeds dull, yellowish grey.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 13 species, eastern Asia, Malesia, Pacific. Australia: 3 species (2 species endemic, 1 species naturalized), Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A.
