Description: Trees or shrubs.
Leaves simple. Sepals 5 or 6, persistent. Petals 5–10, not persistent. Stamens numerous. Carpels 3–15, embedded on hemispherical receptacle.
Fruiting carpels drupaceous.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 90 species, tropical Asia & Africa. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
