Genus Pavetta Family Rubiaceae

Description: Shrubs or small trees.

Leaves opposite; stipules interpetiolar, sheathing, acuminate.

Inflorescences terminal corymbs or panicles subtended by fused bracts; flowers bisexual, protandrous. Calyx tube 4-toothed or lobed. Corolla tube cylindrical, 4-lobed. Stamens 4, filaments short. Ovary 2-locular, 1 ovule per loculus; style filiform, exserted; stigma 2-lobed or entire.

Fruit a drupe, ± globose; seeds 2.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 400 species, tropical regions. Australia: 4 or 5 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W., N.T., W.A.
