Genus Pityrogramma Family Pteridaceae

Description: Rhizome erect to decumbent or short-creeping, slender to somewhat stout, covered with scales and bearing many fibrous roots.

Fronds uniform to somewhat dimorphic with the fertile fronds longer and more erect; lamina pinnatifid to 4-pinnate or 4-pinnatifid, usually bearing, on the lower surface, capitate glands producing a dense, usually white or yellow, mealy indumentum; veins free.

Sori elongated along the veins, indusium absent.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 16 species, tropical America & Africa. Australia: 2 species (naturalized), Qld, N.S.W.
