Genus Podotheca Family Asteraceae

Description: Sticky annual herbs.

Leaves alternate, sessile, entire.

Heads solitary, terminal on leafy peduncles; involucral bracts in many overlapping series, graduated; the outer herbaceous, the inner papery; receptacle flat, pitted, naked. Florets all alike, long tubular with apex slightly expanded, bisexual, fertile, yellow, slighlty exserted from involucre. Anthers tailed at the base, with short terminal appendages. Style branches linear, apices dilated and papillose.

Achenes ± cylindrical, pubescent, on short pedicels that remain on the receptacle; pappus a single row of free plumose bristles.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 spp., endemic Aust., all States except Qld & N.T.
