Genus Pyrostegia Family Bignoniaceae

Description: Woody climbers, branchlets ribbed.

Leaves opposite, compound with 2 or 3 leaflets, often with terminal leaflet modified into a trifid (3-branched) tendril.

Inflorescences terminal or axillary, thyrses. Calyx cupular, truncate, minutely 5-denticulate. Corolla usually tubular, straight to slightly curved; lobes valvate. Stamens 4, exserted from corolla.

Fruit a linear, smooth capsule.

Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 or 4 species, tropical South America. Australia: 1 species (naturalised), Qld, N.S.W.
