Genus Sarcomelicope Family Rutaceae

Description: Shrubs to medium-sized trees, dioecious, with simple hairs, unarmed.

Leaves opposite or whorled, 1-foliolate, margins entire.

Inflorescences axillary, paniculate or apparently racemose. Flowers functionally unisexual. Sepals 4, free or basally fused. Petals 4, imbricate, free, persistent in fruit. Stamens in functionally male flowers 8, free, erect. Carpels in functionally female flowers 4, [basally to] completely fused, lacking a sterile apex; styles fused, arising terminally from carpels; stigma peltate; ovules 2 in each carpel.

Fruit a drupe, consisting of 4 completely fused [or basally fused] carpels; seeds dull to shiny, dark brown to black.


Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 species New Caledonia & Australia. Australia: 1 species
