Genus Soliva Family Asteraceae

Description: Annual herbs, non-glandular hairy, low growing.

Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, 2 or 3-pinnatisect, petiolate.

Heads terminal, solitary, sessile; involucral bracts 1- or 2-seriate, herbaceous with narrow scarious margins, imbricate; receptacle flat, pitted, naked. Outer florets female, 2- or 3-seriate, corolla absent. Inner florets bisexual, tubular, sterile; anthers acute at base with ovate apical appendages.

Achenes of outer florets strongly compressed, glabrous or hairy, lateral angles winged or not, style persistent as spine, pappus absent; inner achenes aborted.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 9 species, South America. Australia: 3 species (naturalized), all mainland States except N.T.
