Genus Tripleurospermum Family Asteraceae

Description: Annual, biennial or perennial herbs.

Leaves cauline, alternate, 1–3-pinnate or pinnatisect.

Inflorescences terminal, heads on leafy stems or in pedunculate corymbs; involucral bracts 2–5-seriate, herbaceous with scarious margins; receptacle conical, ± solid, naked. Ray florets uniseriate or absent, female, ligulate. Disc florets bisexual, tubular, 4- or 5-toothed, fertile, corolla bulbous below; anthers obtuse at base, apical appendage ovate.

Achenes 3-angled, ± oblong; inner surface 3-ribbed; outer surface smooth, wrinkled, tuberculate or ribbed, 0–5 glands at apex; pappus toothed or lobed small corona or absent.


Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 30 species, Europe, Asia & northern Africa. Australia: c. 1 species (naturalized). [sometimes included in Matricaria s. lat.
