Description: Climbing shrubs or trees.
Leaves alternate.
Flowers in panicles or racemes, axillary or terminal. Hypanthium very short. Sepals 5. Petals absent or hooded. Stamens 5. Ovary initially immersed in the disc, 2-locular; style 2-lobed.
Fruit a 1-seeded nut produced into an oblong or linear wing.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 36 species, India, South-East Asia to Pacific; 1 species in Africa & Madagascar. Australia: 3 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W., N.T., S.A., W.A., tropical & drier areas.
