Description: Tall shrub or small tree, 1.5–6.5 m high; stem glabrous or pubescent on young parts.

Leaves narrowly elliptic or narrowly ovate, (3-)4.5–10(-13) cm long, (1.5-)2–4(-5.5) cm wide, subchartaceous, glabrous or minutely pilose on venation below; base tapering; apex acute-acuminate; petiole (5-)7–20(-30) mm long, hairy.

Inflorescence a terminal corymbose thyrse; peduncles hairy, slender, 2–5 cm long; bracts narrowly ovate, 15–25 mm long, 5–10 mm wide, on a petiole 2–3 mm long; bracteoles narrowly ovate, sessile, 2–5 mm long. Flowers pleasantly aromatic; pedicel slender, hairy, (4-)5–10(-14) mm long. Calyx 5–10 mm long, outer surface hairy, inner glabrous and glandular; tube (2-)3–4(-5) mm long; lobes narrowly ovate, (2-)3–4(-5) mm long, (1-)2–2.5 mm wide. Corolla white, glabrous; tube slender, (15-)20–30(-35) mm long, 1–2 mm diam.; lobes elliptic-oblong, 3–5(-6) mm long, 2–3(-4) mm wide. Stamens much exserted; filaments white, glabrous, filiform, (9-)15–25(-35) mm long; anthers 2–3 mm long. Ovary glabrous, 1–1.5 mm diam.; style much exserted, white, glabrous, 30–45(-60) mm long.

Fruit globose-obovoid, 5–10 mm diam., purple-black, glabrous; fruiting calyx dark red.


Distribution and occurrence: This variety occurs in North Coast (N.S.W.); also QLD, N.T., WA and Papua New Guinea.
