Description: Shrub usually 1–3 m high but occasionally becoming small trees reaching 5–6 m; bark peeling in strips; younger stems pubescent.
Leaves broad-lanceolate to elliptic, mostly 20–30 mm long, 5–10 mm wide, incurved; apex acute, usually infolded, point blunt; base almost stem-clasping, pubescent; petiole densely pubescent.
Flowers several together, 8–10 mm diam., white. Hypanthium c. 3 mm long, pubescent. Sepals c. 2 mm long, pubescent, ciliate. Petals 3–4 mm long. Stamens c. 1.5 mm long. Ovary 3-locular.
Fruit c. 5 mm diam., pubescent; valves exserted.
Flowering: August–September
Distribution and occurrence: North from Clarence River region. Grows in swampy heath in poor sandy soil.
