Description: Dioecious tree 5–15 m high; bark furrowed.
Branchlets ascending; articles finely pubescent especially in the furrow shen immature, sometimes waxy, of slightly greater diam. near their apex than towards their base, 8–22 mm long, 1.0–2.0 mm in diameter; phyllichnia flat to slightly rounded-convex, verruculose; teeth 10–14, erect, 0.5–1.0 mm long.
Male spikes 1.5–4.5 cm long, 5–8 whorls per cm; anther 1.0–1.3 mm long.
Cones very short-cylindrical (broader than long), pubescent at least when young, sessile or on short peduncle to 5 mm long; cone body 5–12 mm long, 8–14 mm diameter; bracts inconspicuous; bracteoles with acute to obtuse apex, protuberance entire, pyramidal or flattened, with obtuse apex, much shorter than the bracteole body and diverging from it near its base. Samaras red-brown.
Distribution and occurrence: Widespread in most of the State except the far west and coastal regions. Also in Qld, Vic, SA. Scattered in woodland on non-calcareous soils.
