Description: Mat-forming herb, covered with silvery white scales.
Leaves linear, 5–25 cm long, 10–30 mm wide, apex acuminate, both surfaces grey-green and covered with scales.
Panicle compact, few-flowered, ± hidden among leaves; scape 2–4 cm long; spathes 3–5, leafy, short; racemes 3–18 mm long, 2–5-flowered; pedicels 2–10 mm long. Perianth reddish, 5–10 mm long; tepals basally fused.
Berry obovoid, 9–18 mm long, 3-locular, orange-yellow; seeds 2–12, c. 2 mm long.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in bogs and wet sites in alpine and subalpine areas; confined to the Kosciusko area.
