Dipodium atropurpureum D.L.Jones APNI*

Description: Terrestrial, reduced leaves subtending inflorescence ovate to broad-ovate., 0.7–2 cm long.

Inflorescence 40–60 cm long, 15–40-flowered; pedicel plus ovary 17–22 mm long, dark red, unspotted.

Sepals and lateral petals strongly recurved towards the tips, rich reddish purple, heavily blotched with darker purple. Sepals 15–18 mm long, 4–5.5 mm wide. Labellum 12–14 mm long, dark purplish red; callus keels parallel; central band of hairs mauve, narrow basally but widening to cover most of the apical half of the midlobe; midlobe about twice as long as broad.


Distribution and occurrence: in wet and dry sclerophyll forest on the escarpment ranges, from Dorrigo south to the Hastings R. catchment.
