Ipomoea wightii (Wall.) Choisy APNI*

Description: Perennial with prostrate or twining stems, pilose with yellowish hairs.

Leaves with lamina ovate to cordate, 3–6(-12) cm long, 3–6(-12) cm wide, apex acute to acuminate, base cordate, margins (entire to) 3-lobed; upper surface green, hairs appressed, lower surface white, woolly-hairy; petiole 2–5(-8) cm long.

Inflorescence few-many-flowered, crowded with conspicuous bracteoles 10–12 mm long. Corolla funnel-shaped, purplish-pink, glabrous or sparsely hairy; tube 2–4 cm long; limb c. 3 cm diam.

Capsule globose, 8–10 mm diam., 3-locular, stiffly hairy.


Flowering: mainly summer–autumn.

Distribution and occurrence: Found in disturbed urban bushland at Phillip Bay (Sydney). Native of tropical Asia, Madagascar & eastern Africa south of Kenya.
