Description: Plant to 30 cm high, sometimes with 2 or 3 main stems arising from haustorium; branches strongly flattened in same plane as parent stem, neither strongly contracted nor articulated at nodes, each stem forming a ± integrated cladode tapering at each end; central internodes 10–30 mm long and 10–20 mm wide.

Rudimentary leaves encircling floral cushions and not continuous around nodes, < 0.5 mm long.

Hairs of floral cushion dense, short, red, not visible in young inflorescence. Flowers > 40 per cluster, in at least 4 rows; male flowers few, developing successively down midline of cluster.
