Limonium otolepis (Schrank) Kuntze APNI*

Description: Perennial, mostly 40–80 cm high, glabrous except for calyx.

Basal leaves usually dying off at about flowering time, obovate to spathulate, 3–8 cm long, 20–30 mm wide; stem leaves mostly borne at the lower nodes, sessile, ± circular, 10–30 mm wide, gradually dying off and falling after flowering.

Sterile inflorescence branches numerous. Flowering stems not winged, numerous, much branched, terete or ribbed; bracts c. 1 mm long. Calyx c. 2 mm long, white to mauve.


Flowering: summer to autumn.

Distribution and occurrence: Garden escape. Native of Asia.
