Description: Stem subterranean, 20–30 cm diam.

Leaves 3–7 in crown, 85–115 cm long, ; rachis strongly spirally twisted; pinnae 110–180, simple, deep green to grey-green, semi-glossy, strongly discolorous; longest pinnae 10–30 cm long, 4–9 mm wide, basal pinnae not reduced to spines; petiole 12–20 cm long.

Male cones 18–28 cm long, 4–6 cm diam.; spines 0–1.5 cm long. Female cones 15–23 cm long, 6–9 cm diam.; spines 5–25 mm long; seeds ovoid, 2.3–3 cm long, 2.3–2.6 cm wide, red.


Distribution and occurrence: In an area roughly between Inverell and Tenterfield, scattered in dry sclerophyll woodland on sandy soils over granite.
