Description: Erect, short-lived perennial to c. 1.5 m high with loosely hairy stems.
Leaves scattered, ± semiterete and succulent, to 10 mm long, but frequently very much shorter (especially at fruiting stage), glabrous or almost so.
Flowers solitary, bisexual. Fruiting perianth 6–8 mm diam., glabrous; wings 5, horizontal, cuneate, 2–3 mm long. Colonizing species on saline soils.
