Description: Erect perennial to 1 m high; branches densely tomentose.
Leaves semiterete, fleshy, to 15 mm long, hairy.
Flowers solitary or rarely paired, bisexual. Fruiting perianth soft, straw-coloured when dry; tube c. 2 mm high; horizontal wing 12–15 mm diam., with a radial slit, glabrous or rarely hairy; upper perianth pyramidal, c. 4 mm high.
Distribution and occurrence: Widespread but not particularly common, usually on stony hills or rises.
