Description: Decumbent annual or perennial with floating and/or emergent leaves and emergent inflorescences to 80 cm high; stems decumbent, rooting at the lower nodes.

Leaves with petiole-like stalk to 30 cm long; blade elliptic to ovate, 4–15 cm long and 1–6 cm wide, apex acute, base rounded or cordate.

Inflorescence 5–10 cm long, 3-several-flowered on axillary peduncle surrounded at the base by the sheath of subtending leaf. Perianth lobes 6, more or less equal, fused at the base, 10–20 mm long, blue or white. Stamens 6, more or less equal, 1.5–3 mm long.

Capsule 9–15 mm long; seeds numerous, c. 1 mm long, with 10–15 ribs.


Flowering: during warmer months.

Distribution and occurrence: North Western Plains; also Qld, NT, WA.

Grows in shallow water or drying mud of permanent or temporary water bodies.
