Description: Tufted annual to 1 m high.

Leaves with sheath glabrous or with tubercle-based hairs; ligule membranous below, ciliate above, 1–2 mm long; blade 2.5–14 mm wide, glabrous or with tubercle-based hairs.

Panicle at first partially enclosed in the sheath, 5–35 mm long, pedicels 0.5–5 mm long. Spikelets acuminate, 2.4–3.5 mm long, glabrous. Lower glume c. 30% the length of the spikelet, truncate or with a small point, nerveless or 1-nerved; upper the shape and size of the spikelet, 7–9-nerved. Lower lemma sterile, similar to the upper glume, 5–9-nerved, palea about equal to the lemma. Upper lemma 1.75–2.2 mm long, broad-elliptic, smooth, shining, 7-nerved with a yellowish beak-like apex.
