Polystichum fallax Tindale APNI*
Description: Rhizome and lower parts of stipes covered with fine soft scales and red-brown scales at the very base and broader, and often darker, scales further up.
Fronds 2–3-pinnate, mostly 40–75 cm long; rachises sparsely scaly in mature fronds, proliferous buds never present on main rachis; lamina leathery, the ultimate segments with acute or aristate teeth, the apical spine longer than the marginal ones.
Sori circular; indusium brown, sometimes with a dark centre, not persistent.
Distribution and occurrence: Widespread, chiefly found amongst rocks in open forest at medium altitudes; north from Merriwa district.
