Description: Perennial.
Flowering stems unbranched, stems and petioles densely covered with short appressed hairs, upper surface of lamina hirsute with coarse hairs 2–4 mm long.
Leaves with lamina elliptic to obovate, 0.8–3 cm long, acute. Flowers 15–35 mm diam. Petals 5, obovate with cuneate base, 7–22 mm long, 5–9 mm wide; nectary usually with a small triangular lobe.
Achenes 2–3 mm long, sides smooth, tapering gradually into a stout beak 1–2.2 mm long, straight or slightly hooked at tip.
Flowering: summer.
Distribution and occurrence: ST; Vic. Varieties in N.S.W. 1 Flowering stems usually overtopping the leaves, leaves with petiole longer than lamina. Flowering stems 2-16 cm long. Leaves elliptic, entire or with 2 short teeth, upper surface with appressed or suberect hairs 2-3 mm long, margins with appressed hairs; petiole 1-9 cm long. Achene beak 1-1.5 mm long. Grows in alpine and subalpine grassland of the Kosciusko plateau. ST; Vic. 12a var. In alpine and subalpine grassland.
