Description: Climber with stems to c. 8 m long, sometimes shrub-like; stems rusty-tomentose, older stems usually prickly.
Leaves opposite, lamina ± elliptic to ovate-oblong, 6–20 cm long, 3–7 cm wide, apex ± acute, base ± cordate, lamina glabrescent except for main veins, thick and stiff, strongly veined; petiole 3–6 mm long, rusty-tomentose.
Inflorescence axillary, many-flowered, rachis tomentose; pedicels 0–2 mm long. Tepals 5–8 mm long, creamish. Stamens 5–6 mm long.
Berry globose, 6–12 mm diam., black; seeds 1-few.
Flowering: winter–spring.
Distribution and occurrence: Widespread in moist rainforest; coastal districts north from Dorrigo.
