Description: Erect shrub.
Leaves 9–15-foliolate; leaflets elliptic to oblong, 20–30 mm long, 10–20 mm wide, margins toothed, glabrous.
Flowers solitary or 2 or 3 together, 5–8 cm diam., pink to red, slightly scented, without prominent bracts. Sepals prickly, persistent. Hip globose, c. 20 mm long, yellowish, prickly, glabrous.
Distribution and occurrence: Cultivated, rarely naturalized. Native of China, Japan.
