Description: Hemispherical perennial to c. 1 m high; branches hairy.
Leaves obovate, to c. 15 mm long, flat, shortly petiolate.
Fruiting perianth hairy, 2–3 mm long, attached ± obliquely; spines mostly 5, sometimes 4, spreading, the longer 2 or 3 spines 5–9 mm long, the shorter to c. 4 mm long.
Seed horizontal.
Distribution and occurrence: Widespread on sandy soils.
