Solanum acanthodapis A.R.Bean APNI* Description: Prostrate, stoloniferous shrub to 0.3 m high, moderately to densely stellate-hairy; prickles present on branchlets, leaves, petioles and pedicels; mostly absent from the calyx.
Leaves ovate to elliptical, 5.5–9.5 cm long, 2.8–4.5 cm wide, margins shallowly lobed, rarely entire; upper surface dark green and almost glabrous (stellate hairs confined to veins); lower surface yellowish green to pale yellow, sparsely to densely stellate-tomentose; petiole 10–17 cm long.
Inflorescences 2–8-flowered; peduncle short; pedicels 9–20 mm long. Calyx at anthesis 3.5–5.5 mm long; lobes attenuate, 1.5–2.5 mm long. Corolla stellate, 15–20 mm diam., mauve to purple.
Berry globular to ellipsoidal, 15–18 mm diam., yellow-green; fruiting pedicels 21–24 mm long. Seeds pale yellow.
Flowering: August to February.
Distribution and occurrence: Restricted to the far north-eastern corner of the state, from Whian Whian SF south to near Alstonville. Rare. Grows in low altitude complex notophyll rainforest usually on basaltic clay-loams.
