Description: Erect or sprawling shrub to 1.5 m high, stellate-hairy; prickles scattered to abundant on branches, few or absent elsewhere.
Leaves elliptic, 5–10 cm long, 2–5 cm wide, lower leaves shallowly lobed, upper ones entire or almost so; upper surface green and glabrous or hairs confined to veins, lower surface green to yellowish and pubescent; petiole 0.5–1 cm long.
Inflorescences few-12-flowered; peduncle to 5 mm long; pedicels 10–12 mm long. Calyx 4–6 mm long; lobes 2–3 mm long. Corolla stellate, deeply incised, c. 20 mm diam., white or violet.
Berry 10–15 mm diam., bright red.
Flowering: chiefly summer–autumn.
Distribution and occurrence: Grows in rainforest and wet sclerophyll forest on basaltic soils, north from Lismore district.
