Solanum physalifolium APNI*

Description: Sprawling annual herb to 0.5 m high, hairy with glandular hairs; prickles absent.

Leaves ovate, mostly 4–5 cm long, 1–3 cm wide, margins entire or shallowly lobed with 9 or 10 lobes; ± concolorous, both surfaces green, pubescent; petiole 5–15 cm long.

Inflorescences 2–7-flowered; peduncle 10 mm long, slightly longer in fruit; pedicels 5–7 mm long. Calyx 1.5–2.5 mm long; lobes 1–1.5 mm long. Corolla stellate, 12–14 mm diam., white.

Berry 5–8 mm diam., green to purplish green.


Flowering: chiefly summer.

Distribution and occurrence: Weed of cultivation, from Sydney to Cowra and south to Marulan. Native of N Amer. & Eur.
